About
The AMS offers a variety of grants to support the development of new musical scholarship and professional travel. Since the terms for these grants have overlapping areas of emphasis, applicants may request, where appropriate, to be considered for more than one.
A common application, due on 1 April each year, is used for eight of these travel/research grants and reviewed by the Travel/Research Grants Committee. In this common application, applicants may request consideration for multiple grants. However, applicants should carefully review each grant program’s eligibility criteria and area(s) of emphasis before applying. Indiscriminate application is strongly discouraged and may lead to disqualification.
The remaining AMS travel grants provide professional development and mentorship opportunities for music scholars and educators. Each of these grants has a separate application. Please review each program’s details carefully. Applicants are encouraged to apply to multiple professional development grants, but, as a general rule, may only receive one in any given year. Please note that each grant has different application requirements, eligibility requirements, and deadlines. See below for more details about each grant program.
