About
The Thomas Hampson Fund was established in 2009 in honor of the OPUS Campaign and by the AMS in recognition of Hampson’s outstanding contributions to the field of music as a performer, teacher, and scholar. The fund is dedicated to fostering editions and scholarship on classic song in all its contexts (including American song, contemporary song, etc.), as well as new and innovative technologies for promoting and understanding classic song via interactive media and the Internet.

Eligibility
Applications to the Thomas Hampson Fund must include:
- Prospectus of no more than 1,000 words, explaining the work that has been done thus far and outlining the plan of research (including travel, if relevant)
- Proposed budget detailing when and how the funds are to be used. Please use this budget template to prepare your budget proposal.
Curriculum vitae. - Two letters of recommendation from a scholar familiar with the applicant’s work.
Please see the application form for more details about application requirements. Applicants need not be a member of the AMS to apply.
Applicants may submit proposals at any stage of their research: proposals from graduate students writing dissertations, independent scholars, and faculty will be considered. Those applying to defray expenses related to publication are encouraged to also apply for an AMS publication subvention.

The AMS uses the Submittable platform for fellowship and grant applications. To access the application form, please follow the application link and create a Submittable account. All application materials must be uploaded to Submittable. Start your application process early. You may save an incomplete form and continue later. You MUST click the ‘Submit’ button at the end of the form to submit your application. Applications not submitted by the deadline cannot be considered. Upon submission of your application form you will receive an email confirmation. You may also check the status of your application by signing into your Submittable account and clicking “My Submissions.”
The Thomas Hampson Fund is intended to support projects that engage with classic song and are intended for publication. For the purposes of this grant, publication can include traditional works (such as articles, books, and editions) as well as digital resources.
Your letters must be requested using the reference request feature included in the application form, so please have your recommender’s name and email handy when filling in the form. You may send this letter request at any time, even before you are ready to submit the application.
