Donate The AMS regrets to announce that former AMS member Chris Goertzen passed away on 31 July 2025. Goertzen was Professor Emeritus of music history and world music at The University of Southern Mississippi, where he taught from 2000 until his retirement in 2022. His research explores the history and current state of fiddling and fiddle tunes, especially in the American South, the workings of oral tradition, and the shaping of traditional arts and crafts in response to cultural and commercial forces.
