About

During years when the annual meeting is held online, the AMS offers Annual Meeting Registration Waivers to international applicants from countries with a per-capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) below $41,000. These waivers are intended to support annual meeting attendance by individuals for whom a U.S. dollar-denominated registration fee may present an unduly high financial barrier given the prevailing wages and prices in their home countries.

Recipients of Annual Meeting Registration Waivers will receive full waivers of the annual meeting registration fee. This year’s online annual meeting will be held from 14-15 November and 19-20 November 2026.

The application form for Annual Meeting Registration Waivers will become available in early May.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an Annual Meeting Registration Waiver, applicants must currently reside in a country with a per-capita GDP below $41,000, as determined by the most recent international economic data published by the World Bank (WB). To determine whether your country is eligible, please consult the list available on their website. Eligibility is subject to applicable U.S. laws and regulations, including restrictions related to trade, commerce, or economic sanctions.

Applicants from eligible countries who are accepted to present at the annual meeting will automatically receive an Annual Meeting Registration Waiver. Remaining waivers will be awarded by lottery. Applicants do not need to be presenting at the annual meeting to be eligible.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What if I am a citizen of an eligible country but reside elsewhere?

Eligibility for Annual Meeting Registration Waivers is determined by current country of residence, not citizenship.

What does an Annual Meeting Registration Waiver Cover?

The waiver provides a full waiver of the annual meeting registration fee. Recipients are able to register and attend the online annual meeting without any cost to them.

Are these waivers available every year?

Annual Meeting Registration Waivers are only offered during years when the AMS annual meeting is held fully online. For years when the annual meeting is being held in person, the Society instead offers Annual Meeting Travel Grants for AMS members to travel to the annual meeting, as well as Supplemental Grants for undergraduate and terminal master’s degree students.

Do I need to be an AMS member to apply?

No, AMS membership is not required to apply.

I live in a country that is subject to U.S. sanctions or other restrictions. Am I still eligible for an Annual Meeting Registration Waiver?

Eligibility is subject to applicable U.S. laws and regulations. If you reside in a country that may be affected by trade, commerce, or economic sanctions, please contact the AMS office at ams@amsmusicology.org before applying so we can advise you on your eligibility.
