As reported in the Feb. 2019 issue of the print AMS Newsletter, The Board of Directors has made the decision to migrate the AMS Newsletter to electronic-only distribution. With the change, members benefit from more frequent news reports, and the Society takes another step into the internet age.
We will continue to provide the information formerly included in the print Newsletter: reports from the president, treasurer, executive director, JAMS editor, information on chapter, committee, and study group activity, annual meeting planning and information, news of awards and honors—all that was provided in the past, and more. “Back issues,” in the form of web pages, of AMS News, will also be available for all.
Editor James Parsons continues to serve, now editing the new format.
You may submit information for inclusion at any time: use this form to submit Newsletter items.
Back print issues of the AMS Newsletter (from 1971 to Feb. 2019)
The AMS Newsletter was published semiannually in February and August until February 2019.
Guidelines for Announcements of Awards, Prizes, and Honors: The Society makes every effort to announce widely publicized awards that AMS members receive. Other announcements come from AMS members themselves. Awards made to student members as a result of national or international competitions are also announced.
Policy on Obituaries: The Society now recognizes the accomplishments of members who have died by printing obituaries in this place. They will normally be no more than 500 words and will focus on music-related activities such as teaching, research, publications, grants, and service to the Society. The Society requests that colleagues, friends, or family of a deceased member who wish to see him or her recognized by an obituary communicate that desire to the AMS office (firstname.lastname@example.org). The Committee on Obituaries oversees the process.
