About
The American Musicological Society (AMS) will hold its 93rd Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington at the Hyatt Regency Seattle on 11 November through 15 November 2027.
The AMS Annual Meeting is a forum for the exploration of music, history and culture, and is made possible by the support and service of AMS members and volunteers. The 2027 AMS Annual Meeting will be held in Seattle, the largest city in the Pacific Northwest and one rich in musical culture and traditions. In the 1930s and 1940s Seattle was a key site for the development of jazz and thus is closely associated with music legends Ray Charles and Quincy Jones. Seattle was also the location of Nirvana’s first concert in 1988, and is considered the birthplace of grunge. So, mark your calendar. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2027 AMS Annual Meeting in Seattle!
If you have any questions about the Annual Meeting, please contact the AMS Office at events [at] amsmusicology.org.
How George Bridgetower Flourished
George Augustus Bridgetower (1779-1860) was a skilled and well-connected African-European violinist in early nineteenth-century Europe, and the original dedicatee of the Sonata for Piano and Violin Op.47 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). This lecture-recital, held at the 2023 AMS-SMT Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, features Nicole Cherry and answers questions about Bridgetower’s legacy, while raising questions about the depth of community within the Western Canon.
