Bonnie J. Blackburn, 1939–2026
It is with great sadness that the American Musicological Society (AMS) announces that Bonnie J. Blackburn passed away in March 2026. Blackburn was a former Director-at-Large on the AMS Board of Directors and an AMS Corresponding Member. She was an independent scholar specializing in music and music theory of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and previously taught at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and served on the editorial board of Music & Letters.
