Leadership Transition: AMS Treasurer
The American Musicological Society announces a significant leadership transition. Dr. Samuel (Sam) Dorf, who has served as AMS Treasurer since November 2021, has stepped down from this role to dedicate more time to other professional and personal commitments. Dr. Dorf is Alumni Endowed Chair in the Humanities and Professor of Music at the University of Dayton and was recently elected to serve on the Oakwood City Council in Oakwood, OH.
To ensure a smooth transition, the AMS Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Marcus Pyle to succeed Dr. Dorf as the Society’s Interim Treasurer. Marcus Pyle is Franco Professor of Humanities and Assistant Professor of Music at Davidson College. He brings extensive experience to the role of Treasurer, serving currently as Co-Chair of the Finance and Development Committee of the American Viola Society, Artistic Director of the Davidson Concert Series, and Founder and Director of ChamberWorks Music Institute. Dr. Pyle will serve in this capacity until the beginning of the next service year (November 2026), when a permanent Treasurer will be appointed for a standard three-year term.
The Society extends its deepest gratitude to Sam Dorf for his exceptional service, commitment, and dedication. His contributions have been invaluable to the financial health and stability of the organization, and the AMS Board of Directors warmly wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.
