About

Music Interpretation Grants provide funding for the production of a work of musical interpretation or analysis by members of the Coalition of Music Organizations. Eligible projects include books, articles, digital resources, performance notes or other commentary, public programs, etc. Funding comes partly from the Roland Jackson Award Fund and partly from AMS general operating funds.

The goal of this program is to support both scholarly and public commentary, interpretation, and analysis of music. The program was established in summer 2025 with the launching of the Coalition of Music Organizations. The Coalition of Music Organizations is a voluntary association of small to medium-sized music organizations, publishers, programs, and cultural institutions designed to provide access to small-grant funding ($1,000–$10,000), outreach support, and opportunities for cooperation and conversation. The Coalition of Music Organizations takes advantage of economies of scale and its members’ diverse organizational strengths to return benefits well in excess of the modest annual membership fee (which start at $475).

Eligibility & Deadlines

Eligibility is restricted to current institutional members of the Coalition of Music Organizations. To apply, the applying institution must be a member of the Coalition as of the application deadline.

The Music Interpretation Grants application form will open in February 2026. Applications for the 2026 funding cycle are due 15 April 2026.
