Riemenschneider Bach Institute 1 April and 1 October $2500 Open Fellowships are for full-time residential research in the collections of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute. Fellowships are for a period of one to four weeks with a stipend of up to $2,500, depending on the length of stay and travel expenses. Fellows will be encouraged to present their work to faculty and students and, depending on suitability, submit it for publication to BACH: Journal of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute.
Yale Institute of Sacred Music 15 October 1/2 regular annual salary up to $52,000 Open, but see detailed guidelines The fellowship year lasts from August 20 to May 15. Fellows are expected to be free of commitments that would prevent them from devoting themselves full time to the work outlined in their proposal and to live in residence within ten miles of the Yale campus. Fellowships are typically half of the fellow’s regular annual salary up to $52,000 per year.

Long-Term fellowships (4-12 months) provide support to researchers who wish to use the library's collections. Short-Term fellowships (1-2 months) are also available with awards from $1,200-$5,000.
Camargo Foundation 8 December $800/month unrestricted Residency program for scholars and artists in Cassis, France. Residencies are for one to three months. Fall Fellowships are 8 weeks; Spring Fellowships are 6, 8, or 11 weeks. A monthly stipend of $800 is available.
Liguria Study Center for the Arts and Humanities mid January and April Various unrestricted Residency program in Bogliasco, Italy, for artists and scholars in the arts and humanities. Fellowships usually have a duration of one month or, in some cases, a half semester. Room and board included, stipends not provided. However, all persons who are awarded a Bogliasco Fellowship are automatically eligible for Special Fellowship status which does provide travel reimbursement and a cash stipend.
American Handel Society: J. Merrill Knapp Research Fellowship early March $2,000 graduate student or new Ph.D. Fellowship award to be granted to an advanced graduate student or a scholar in the early stages of his or her career. The fellowship is intended to support work in the area of Handel or other related research. The winner of the award is given the opportunity to present a paper at the biennial meeting of AHS. This Fellowship is awarded in even-numberd years.
Rice University's Humanities Research Center
2 Nov $40,000 to $50,000 Visiting tenure-track External Faculty Fellowships Up to four one-semester residential fellowships for external faculty during academic year 2010-11. $40,000 to $50,000 stipend, depending on rank, as well as an allowance for research and relocation to be used during the appointment period. Applicants should have a tenured or
tenure-track position at an institution other than Rice. Fellows are in residence at the center and teach one course.

30 Nov $40,000 Postdoctoral Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships Up to three two-year fellowships for promising scholars providing up to two years transition between graduate school and faculty appointments. $40,000 per year. Fellows teach one course per semester.
American Brahms Society: The Karl Geiringer Fund in Brahms Studies Scholarship 1 May $1,000 to $2,500 graduate student Scholarship award to be granted to students at universities in North America who are in the final stages of preparing a doctoral dissertation that includes work relating to Brahms.
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program early August varies post- doctoral The program sends 800 faculty and professionals abroad to as many as 140 countries to lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowships mid September $25,000 to $50,000 post- doctoral Fellowships for research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts.
Columbia Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University early October $50,000 to $75,000 post- doctoral Fellowships in the humanities for the academic year. Fellows are appointed as Lecturers in appropriate departments at Columbia University and as postdoctoral research fellows. The fellowship is renewable for a second and third year.
American Academy in Berlin Last Monday in September
$10,000 to $25,000 post- doctoral Fellowships are typically awarded for an academic semester or, on occasion, for an entire academic year. Bosch Fellowships in Public Policy may be awarded for shorter stays of six to eight weeks. Fellowship benefits include round-trip airfare, partial board, a $5,000 monthly stipend, and accommodations at the Academy's lakeside Hans Arnhold Center in the Berlin-Wannsee district.
Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies mid October $50,000 to $75,000 post- doctoral Fellowships for independent study of the Italian Renaissance. Intended for scholars who are still in the earlier stages of their career
National Humanities Center Fellowships mid October $50,000 to $75,000 post- doctoral Fellowships for semester or academic year residence at the National Humanities Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
American Academy in Rome early November $13,000 to $26,000 pre- and post- doctoral Pre- and post-doctoral fellowships for artists and scholars in the early or middle stages of their careers. Some opportunities exist for advanced scholars as well. The residency lasts for eleven months and each Rome Prize winner is provided with a stipend, meals, a bedroom with private bath, and a study or studio.
Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies early December $10,000 to $25,000 graduate student or new Ph.D. Residential fellowships at the Freie Universität Berlin provide up to one-year of research support. Spouse and dependent support available.
Princeton University Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts 6 August competitive salary, benefits, etc. post-doctoral Residential fellowships with teaching; research support.
Delmas Foundation 15 December Up to Max. $19,900 pre- and post- doctoral Venetian Research Program: Pre- and post-doctoral grants for travel to and research in Venice and the Veneto for up to a full academic year.
French Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Chateaubriand Scholarship late December $10,000 to $25,000 graduate student Residency at a French research institution for doctoral candidates.
American Antiquarian Society various varies pre- and post- doctoral Short-term fellowships ($1,000 to $2,500) for scholars to spend one to three months doing research in the AAS library. Dealine is early January. Long-term fellowships ($25,000-$50,000) for scholars to spend four to twelve months in the AAS library. Deadlines are in January, September, and October.

Learned Societies
Various $50,000 to $75,000 pre- and post- doctoral The ACLS Fellowship Program invites research applications in all disciplines of the humanities. The ultimate goal should be a major piece of scholarly work that will take the form of a monograph or other equally substantial form of scholarship. ACLS does not fund creative work, textbooks, straightforward translation, or pedagogical projects. The fellowships are intended as salary replacement (up to $60,000) to help scholars devote six to twelve continuous months to full-time research and writing. Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) various varies unrestricted A wide variety of grants and scholarships for study or research in Germany, for faculty as well as students. Contact their Research Ambassador in Music for assistance and information.
Humboldt Foundation Fellowships rolling $25,000 to $50,000 post- doctoral Fellowships for research in Germany lasting six to twelve months. Applications may be submitted at any time.
International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) various varies unrestricted A wide variety of grants to master’s, pre-doctoral, postdoctoral, and senior scholars, for travel and research, principally in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
Social Science Research Council: International Dissertation Research Fellowship early November $10,000 to $25,000 graduate student The program is designed to support distinguished graduate students in the humanities and social sciences who are conducting dissertation research outside the US. Fellowships will last nine to twelve months.
American Academy of Arts & Sciences: Visiting Scholars Program mid October $25,000 to $50,000 post- doctoral The program supports the work of younger public policy analysts, humanists, and social scientists who show promise of becoming leaders in their field, especially those who work on multidisciplinary topics. The Program offers opportunities for them to carry out their individual research as well as to collaborate with Academy Fellows on shared scholarly or policy-related interests. Preference is given to untenured junior faculty; the Ph.D. should have been completed within the last 10 years.
Kurt Weill Foundation for Music early June, early November varies unrestricted Grants to support research and performance projects relating to Kurt Weill, Lotte Lenya, and Marc Blitzstein. Grants are available for research and travel, dissertation fellowships, publication assistance, Kurt Weill Mentors, educational outreach, college/university performance, professional performance, and broadcasts.
School of Advanced Study, University of London (Institute of Musical Research) late January $25,000 to $50,000 post- doctoral Six-month fellowships for senior scholars to complete research in London. Fellows are based at one or more of the ten Institutes within the School of Advanced Study, give a formal lecture and take a leading intellectual role. Non-stipendiary.
Bill and Carol Fox Ctr. for Humanistic Inquiry: Emory Univ. end February $25,000 to $50,000 post- doctoral Junior and Post-Doctoral fellowships for an academic year of study, teaching, and residence in the Center.  The FCHI Fellows Program offers research opportunities to those trained in the humanities as traditionally defined and to others seriously interested in humanistic issues. We especially seek applicants and projects that will benefit from and contribute to the interdisciplinary nature of the group.
Kartomi PhD in Music Scholarship: Monash University
end October $25,000 to $50,000 graduate student The scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and international applicants who have completed a four year undergraduate, masters preliminary or masters degree at H1 level or equivalent and who propose to undertake a PhD in music. The scholarship may be held in any field of music compatible with the research plans of the School. Award holders will receive a generous stipend and may also be eligible for allowances for establishment, relocation, research and thesis production. Scholarship period: 3 years full-time.
National Endowment for the Humanities early May $25,000 to $50,000 post- doctoral Fellowships provide support for individuals pursuing advanced research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the general public's understanding of the humanities. Recipients usually produce scholarly articles, monographs, books, translations, editions, or other scholarly tools. Fellowships support full-time work on a humanities project for a period of six to twelve months. Summer stipends ($5,000-$10,000) are also available for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing; deadline is early October.
Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies 15 Oct up to $75,000 (a few senior scholars will be offered additional funding to help make up for losses in salary) post-doctoral Candidates of any nationality may apply for a single term or a full academic year. Scholars may apply for a stipend, but those with sabbatical funding, other grants, retirement funding or other means are also invited to apply for a non-stipendiary membership. Some short-term visitorships (for less than a full term, and without stipend) are also available on an ad-hoc basis. Open to all fields of historical research. Residence in Princeton during term time is required.

Council on Library and Information Resources 2 Dec $18,000-$25,000 PhD student The program offers about fifteen competitively awarded fellowships a year. Each provides a stipend of $2,000 per month for periods ranging from 9 to 12 months. Each fellow receives an additional $1,000 upon participating in a symposium on research in original sources and submitting a report acceptable to CLIR on the research experience.
Social Science Research Council 1 Nov $20,000 PhD student The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers nine to twelve months of support to graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. Eighty fellowships are awarded annually. Fellowship amounts vary depending on the research plan, with a per-fellowship average of $21,000. The fellowship includes participation in an SSRC-funded interdisciplinary workshop upon the completion of IDRF-funded research.
Northwestern University Library April up to $3,000 open John Cage Research Grant to study materials in the John Cage Collection at Northwestern. The grant, in an amount up to $3000, may be awarded to support expenses for transportation, accommodations meals, and copying fees for one or more on-site visits to Northwestern University for the purpose of research using the John Cage Collection. Research may be in any field (e.g., musicology, art history, philosophy, literature, cultural studies), but projects must concern an aspect of Cage’s life and work and must clearly demonstrate a need for extensive use of the Cage Collection.
Getty Library Research Grants 17 Oct $500-$2,500 open Getty Library Research Grants provide partial, short-term funding to study collections housed at the Getty Reseach Institute
The Getty Foundation 3 Oct $25,000-$30,000 varies Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Getty Research Institute. Fellows make use of the Getty collections and participate in intellectual life of the Getty. Getty Predoctoral Fellows are in residence for nine months from late-September to late-June and receive a stipend of $25,000. Getty Postdoctoral Fellows are in residence for nine months from late-September to late-June and receive a stipend of $30,000.
Music Library Association Dena Epstein Award July up to $5,775 open Archival and Library Research in American Music
GRAMMY Foundation Grant Program 1 Oct $20,000 open Given to projects that advance the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of North America, and research projects related to the impact of music on the human condition.
