|Honorary and Corresponding Members|
According to the AMS By-laws, Honorary and Corresponding members of the AMS are those scholars "who have made outstanding contributions to furthering its stated object and whom the Society wishes to honor." (By-laws, III.A.5, 6)
Honorary and Corresponding members are selected by a committee of the AMS Council early each year. They consider and submit nominations to the Board of Directors for its meeting in early March. The Board considers these, occasionally revising the nominations list. The Council votes formally on Honorary and Corresponding member nominations in the summer. Those elected to Honorary or Corresponding membership are normally informed in September.
To put forward a candidate for Honorary or Corresponding membership, contact a member of the Council Committee on Corresponding and Honorary Members or send your suggestion to the AMS. This should be done by 15 January (or the following business day, if 15 January is a weekend or holiday) each year. See the AMS Administrative Handbook (II.B.3.b) for more information on the Council Committee on Corresponding and Honorary Members.
