        1. Eileen Southern Travel Fund Protocol (summary)
          1. The goal of the AMS Eileen Southern Travel Fund is to increase the percentage of AMS members from groups traditionally under-represented in the discipline of musicology; to expose selected undergraduate minority students to various aspects of the field at the Annual Meeting, including introducing them to representatives of graduate programs in musicology, and to future colleagues and mentors.
          2. A “Message” from the CCD appears in every AMS Newsletter; in the February issue, the names of the ESTF recipients for that year should be published with a group photograph if available. The CCD also publicizes the ESTF on the AMS list-serve; to related organizations; to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities members (HACU), and other relevant institutions. Members of the AMS living within a 60-mile or so radius of the Annual Meeting site should also be targeted for publicity about the ESTF. The Local Arrangements Committee should be alerted to the availability of ESTF funds for local student participants.
          3. The deadline for the ESTF applications is October 1. Applicants should use the forms on the website. They must be undergraduates, recent graduates not yet accepted into a graduate program, or in a terminal MA program.
            1. Successful applicants will be provided with round trip economy airfare reimbursed by the AMS (if they live far enough away); complimentary shared hotel; Annual Meeting registration fees paid in full; a per diem for food, transportation, and other incidental expenses; a complimentary ticket for a performing event; one year’s complimentary membership in the AMS.
            2. Successful applicants living in close proximity to the AMS meeting who cannot be present for the entire AMS conference will be considered guests of the AMS and the CCD rather than full ESTF fellows.
          4. The list of ESTF fellows, along with short bios, will be sent to representatives from each member of the Alliance (graduate institutions with fellowships for members of groups traditionally under represented in the AMS) and the members of the AMS Board in the weeks leading up to the annual AMS meeting. During the same period, each recipient will be advised by a mentor from the CCD. After the conclusion of the AMS Annual Meeting, the CCD will also elicit a brief report (two written pages or so) from the ESTF recipient.
          5. In subsequent months and years, informal contacts may be initiated between members of the CCD and former ESTF fellows to follow the success of the ESTF program in persuading members of groups traditionally under-represented in the AMS to pursue academic careers in musicology.
