Committee on Technology meeting on Digital Musicology
The AMS Board Committee on Technology is pleased host what promises to be an exciting session on digital musicological resources at the 2019 Annual Meeting (Friday, 12:30-2pm), co-chaired by committee members Joshua Neumann and Mollie Ables. The session is titled “Digital Musicology: Dialogue, Demonstration, Demystification” and features a panel of seven speakers with diverse areas of expertise in digital musicology (Katie Chapman, Karen Desmond, Richard Freedman, Estelle Joubert, Imani Mosley, Jesse Rodin, and Raffaele Viglianti). Rather than focusing on the ‘what’ (in terms of findings), this session will focus on ‘how’ various tools and methodologies can form foundational and/or ancillary components to our research and teaching. In the first part of this session, the panelists will present their digital musicology projects and tools, and address how to make such digital work available to and usable by the broader musicological community. The second part will demystify digital scholarship and introduce these various projects in a practical way in breakout groups that will facilitate hands-on familiarity with specific methodologies, tools, and software.
