Endowed Lectures
The President’s Endowed Plenary Lecture is delivered at the AMS Annual Meeting by a prominent scholar or creative professional selected by the Society’s President. The lecture endowment was established and funded by a generous gift from Elaine Sisman and Martin Fridson.
The Committee on Women and Gender Lecture provides a platform for important scholarship in fields of women’s and gender studies. The speaker is selected and invited by the currently serving members of the Committee on Women and Gender (CWG).
The Critical Race Studies Lecture provides a platform for important scholarship in field of critical race studies. The speaker is selected and invited by the currently serving members of the Committee on Race, Indigeneity, and Ethnicity (CRIE).
Public Lectures
The AMS/Library of Congress Lecture Series is a public lecture program that highlights music studies research conducted in the Library of Congress, Music Division’s collections.
The American Musicological Society and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, collaborate on a lecture series that brings scholarly work to a broader audience and showcases the musicological work of the top scholars in the field.
The AMS/NYU Lecture is presented annually, and provides an opportunity for important music researchers to share their insights with the NYU community and the larger New York area.
Jonathan Larson and the Creation of the Musical Rent, 1995–1996
In a lecture co-presented with the Library of Congress, Alex Bádue discusses his research on Jonathan Larson’s Rent, based on lyric sketches, letters and scripts held in the Library’s Jonathan Larson Collection. Bádue focused on the final year of the composition process, from January 1995 to January 1996, and established a timeline that included major events in the making of the musical that have not yet been accounted for in the historiography of Rent and its original production.
