The American Musicological Society (AMS) is calling for nominations for candidates to be recognized as Honorary Members of the AMS. Honorary Members of the AMS are those “who have made outstanding contributions to furthering its stated object and whom the Society wishes to honor.” (By-laws, III.A.5, 6)  See the full list of current Honorary Members.

Honorary Members are selected by a committee of the AMS Council each year. The committee reviews and submits nominations to the Board of Directors for its consideration. The Council votes formally on Honorary Member nominations in the summer. Those elected to Honorary Membership are normally informed in September.

To nominate a candidate for Honorary Membership, please submit a nomination via the AMS nomination form. This should be done no later than Friday, 28 March 2025. See the AMS Administrative Handbook (II.B.3.b) for more information on the Council Committee on Honorary Members.

NOTE: In 2022, the American Musicological Society retired the category of “Corresponding Member,” and so no longer distinguishes honored members based on nationality or country of residence. Thus, honorary member nominations are sought and welcomed for candidates of all nationalities.
